Department History

As been related to Gandhi family FGC has very prestigious history.

The establishment of Botany Department with B.Sc. classes took place in 1968 with Dr. Ashok Kumar Sinha as the first Head of the Department. The Department was extended to post graduate (M.Sc.) level in 1977. Great academicians joined the department as faculty members :

Milestones Achieved

• 1. Under the stewardship of the founder head of the department Dr. AK Sinha Department was awarded in conjunction with senior faculty members of the departments of Chemistry, Zoology. First Major Research Project by the Ministry of Environment & Forests, Govt. of India, to study status of Polution in River Ganges Water. College Established Environment Research Center to facilitate successful implementation of the project
• 2. Dr. AK Sinha Acted as organizing Secretary to organize International Symposium on Pollution Hazards involving Scientist from SAARC countries. Eminent Environmentalist and secretary of ministry of environment above all secretary general of SAARC countries also participated.
• 3. Subsequently several research projects major and minor financed by university grants commission CST UP, Ministry of Environment and Forests, were executed
• 4. Current Faculty members namely Dr. PS Pandey, Dr. Neeraj, Dr. Adarsh Kumar and Dr. Rakesh Kumar participated in national and international conferences organized in India and abroad.
• 5. Dr. Neeraj reader and senior faculty member in recognition to his research work was awarded carrier award by UGC.
• 6. Upto this date nearly Twelve Ph. D.s have been awarded by the university.
• 7. Faculty members have published nearly 150 research papers in national and international Journals.
